CGI Window Replacement: The Boca Raton Owner’s Guide

If you have a CGI window that’s failed - a cracked sash, a fogged insulated glass unit, a lock that won’t engage, or impact glass that took a hit and now needs replacing - we stock and install CGI-compatible window parts and full sash replacements across Boca Raton. Typical installed replacement runs $400 to $1,800 depending on whether we’re swapping a single pane, a full sash, or the entire frame, and most single-sash jobs are done in one visit. What usually tips homeowners off: a window that’s suddenly hard to open, condensation trapped between the panes that won’t wipe away, or a hairline crack that’s been there since last hurricane season and is now starting to spread.

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI’s impact window lines don’t all use the same hardware, and that’s the first thing we check on a service call. The most common series we see in Boca Raton homes are the Estate Collection, the Sentry line, and older 4000/5000-series units that builders put in during the early-2000s condo boom. Each series has different sash profiles, balance systems, and glazing bead widths - meaning a sash from an Estate window will not drop into a Sentry frame, even if both measure 36 by 48 inches. The reliable way to identify what you have is the sticker: CGI etches a tempered-glass bug and a product code into the corner of every lite, and there’s a serial label on the top edge of the sash you can read by tilting the window in. If the label is gone, we measure the visible glass, the frame depth, and the balance shoe style at the service call.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for structural aluminum frames and laminated impact glass, we use genuine CGI-spec material. The laminate interlayer thickness and the alloy temper matter, and a generic “impact-rated” glass pack from a supply house isn’t the same as what CGI engineered for that frame. For wear items like spiral balances, tilt latches, and weatherstripping, we use the OEM replacements where they’re still available, and a quality-equivalent aftermarket for older discontinued series where CGI no longer keeps stock. One thing we won’t do is hand you a part and tell you it’s “just as good” when it changes how the window performs in a wind-load event.

We’re an independent service provider - not affiliated with CGI - which means we answer to you, the homeowner, not a corporate warranty department. We also stock replacement hardware for PGT, CWS, and ES Windows, which helps when a whole house has mixed brands from different remodel eras.

Signs Your CGI Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Fog or condensation between the panes. The seal on the insulated glass unit, or IGU, has let go. In Boca Raton’s salt air, a failed seal means moisture and haze that worsens every summer. The fix is a new IGU, not a new window - we order the glass pack to the exact thickness and laminate spec.
  • The sash is heavy, uneven, or drops when you let go. Spiral or block-and-tackle balances wear out, especially in coastal air where corrosion accelerates. A tired balance makes the window a two-hand job and eventually a safety problem when it slams shut on someone’s fingers.
  • The lock or tilt latch is stiff, stripped, or snapped. CGI hardware is robust, but salt and hard use take their toll after 10 to 15 years. A broken tilt latch also means you can’t clean or service the sash safely from inside.
  • Visible crack, chip, or crazing in the glass. A true impact crack - like from a branch during a storm - usually starts small and runs. Laminated glass holds together by design, but the structural rating is compromised the moment the outer lite fractures.
  • Water staining on the interior drywall under the window. This is usually the frame’s weatherstripping or the caulking at the rough opening, not the glass. But left alone, a leak here rots the buck framing, and a simple part swap becomes a full frame replacement.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Boca Raton, here’s what we typically see for CGI window replacement work, installed:

  • Insulated glass unit replacement (fogged or cracked single lite): $400-$850
  • Single sash replacement (frame is sound, sash is damaged): $650-$1,200
  • Full-frame window replacement (frame is rotted or out of square): $1,100-$1,800
  • Hardware replacement (balances, locks, tilt latches): $120-$350 per window

The range comes down to series, glass size, and whether we’re matching an existing finish or ordering something unusual. Every quote is line-item: parts, labor, and disposal separated, so you know exactly what you’re paying for. We don’t write change orders once work starts - the number we quote is the number on the invoice. And every replacement is covered by the 36500-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s not a warranty card you file with a call center. That’s Ed’s word, and Ed’s name is on the door.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can safely check yourself: reading the sticker on the sash, measuring the visible glass, and photographing the damage before you call. What we’d tell you not to do is pull the sash out and start disassembling the glazing bead. The glass in a CGI window is heavy - a laminated 36-by-60 lite can weigh 60 pounds or more - and the tilt-latch mechanisms are under tension. One wrong move with a screwdriver and that sash drops out of the track onto your floor, or worse, onto you. We’ve also seen homeowners order a “matching” IGU online, then discover it’s 1/8 inch too thick to seat in the original glazing channel. Then they’ve paid for glass they can’t use and still need us to come install the right one.

If you’re in Boca Raton and the window is original to the house, call us first. Ed Winslow grew up in Miami and cut his teeth on South Florida coastal construction - he knows which CGI series had seal-life issues, which hardware corrodes fastest in salt air, and how to match an old bronze frame so the replacement doesn’t look like a patch. Our techs are background-checked and uniformed, and a live person answers the phone when you call. The service call number is (561) 816-5648.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"The old aluminium sliders howled every afternoon storm and swelter came straight through the glass. The new impact sliders shut with a sound like a bank vault and the back rooms finally hold their temperature."

PPercival Whitcombe
★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."
